Last time I have talked about Kiki’s Delivery Service, If you haven’t seen the review yet, make sure you go check it out here in the site. Now for my next review for Studio Ghilbi Fest is on Castle in the Sky. My apologizes for the long wait since I have been busy doing other articles. For that, let’s skip the introduction get straight to the review:
The story is about a boy named Pazu who meets a girl floating down from the sky named Sheeta after the airship she was abducted from the military has been attacked by pirates. The military and the pirates are in search for Sheeta’s crystal amulet which might contain the secret to finding a legendary castle that floats in the sky, Laputa. It’s pronounced Laputa and not “La Puta” which translate from Spanish for “The Bitch”. I say this because a lot of people specifically Hispanics pronounce it that way because it’s funny. I don’t blame them because it is funny.
The story is really good and you get to find out from all sides why they want to find Laputa (Not La Puta) and there is some great surprises and plot twists to the story. The only hint I can tell you is one of them has something to do with Sheeta’s past.
To keep it short and simple like I always have, everything about the movie is good. I loved the plot twists , the action scenes, I love how the robot destroyed a lot of the military forces in the castle while protecting Sheeta when she is trying to escape, and I loved how the pirates and Pazu decided to make a deal to find Laputa and in return the pirates get what they want. I loved that Mark Hamill did a great job on doing the voice of Muska and how you can easily know that it really is him just by Muska’s laugh which has a hint of The Joker’s laugh and everyone knows that laugh. It’s very recognizable.
I have nothing bad to say about movie. In my opinion, the movie was awesome just like you expect from Studio Ghibli. The characters are great and you know some back story from them, the movie has a good balance on action and humor, and the ending is satisfying and what happens to the castle is reasonable. There are a few questions that are left unanswered, for example, why Laputa was completely deserted in the first place? Regardless, those questions are left with the viewers alone to theorize but it still doesn’t effect the movie at all for me since most questions are answered in the movie except the question I just mentioned.
Overall, the movie is very enjoyable and it kept me going throughout the whole movie to see what happens next and what would they expect to see in Laputa. You should go check it out for yourself. I give this movie a 5 out of 5. I hoped you enjoyed this review and tell me what do you think of the movie, what is your favorite part, and finally what do you think of the reason why the city was deserted in the first place in the comment section.
