If you have seen the movie, Enjoy my review. Finally, If you don’t care about spoilers, Once again, enjoy the review. You have been warned.
It’s been 12 years since we’ve seen King Kong, until now. This time King Kong is much bigger then before and it’s more serious unlike the last movie with Jack Black. Don’t give me wrong, Peter Jackson’s King Kong was awesome especially with the fight scene between Kong and the V-rexs but it was more focused on King Kong and the girl. In this new movie, it’s more about the survival of the people on skull island and King Kong himself. So lets get started on the review for you guys to see if it’s worthy of it’s legacy and for you guys to know what I mean by the movie being “more Serious”:
The story takes place in 1973, two scientists hire a tracker and a groups of soldiers in order to go to skull island on what the soldiers believe to be a military operation. Later on in the movie, one of the scientists revealed that the purpose of the mission is to prove the existence of monsters and determine their threat to humanity. The group tries to survive from the dangers of the island and from King Kong who brings balance to the island by killing monsters called the skull crawlers and protecting the natives. The story is short and simple. There are other details I didn’t mention but I wont spoil that for you and I wanted to give you a short brief of the story and not the whole story itself then it wont be a review and more like a story telling article.
I honestly liked everything about the movie. The CGI of King Kong was great and realistic, The actors were good, Samuel L Jackson was being Samuel L Jackson like he always does, The action scenes were great and finally the fight between King Kong and the big skull crawler was epic as fuck especially how he killed him by ripping out the insides of it. I love how the movie felt different from the original since this movie made references of Godzilla without saying that it is him and that there was no romance between the girl and King Kong. I personally liked that they didn’t add in the romance part from the original movie and was more focus on Kong himself and the survival of the people stuck in the island. Finally, I like the different creatures that are in the island, there was one scene that the soldiers had to fight a giant spider while 2 or 3 of them died brutally by the spiders sharp legs. Oh yeah, there is a post credit scene after the movie which one of the scientist says ” Kong, is not the only King”, then they showed cave paintings of Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan which is hinting the next movie of Godzilla and how it’s gonna lead up to Godzilla vs King Kong. In the end of the scene, the roar of Godzilla played. As a big Godzilla fan, I fucking loved it.
I can’t believe I am saying this but I didn’t find anything wrong with the move. I know with Peter Jackson’s King Kong, people complained that the movie felt too long but this one didn’t felt long at all and it had a good balance between funny and seriousness. I tried to remember if there was anything wrong but really there isn’t one thing that bother me about the movie.
This movie is a MUST SEE for King Kong and Godzilla fans alike and anyone else that love monster flicks. If you have seen the 2014 Godzilla movie, then you have to see this movie since they are connected and it will lead to Godzilla vs King Kong which we will be expecting in 2020. I give Kong:Skull Island a 5 out of 5. I hoped you guys enjoyed this review, tell me what do you think of the movie and what do you like and don’t like about it? Are you looking forward to the next Godzilla movie? Finally are you excited for Godzilla vs King Kong?
